Team Lorie - You Got This Lorie!

Lorie Pawley has entered into a new chapter of life. We’ll have to call it something like, “Melanoma Loses the Fight”!
Her brother-in-law said it best when hearing the news of Lorie’s recent diagnosis of this aggressive cancer. He said, “We cannot lose Lorie, she’s mission critical!”

True words.

Below, you'll find a short explanation about what is going on, updates, and how you can help.

Lorie Pawley, Pastor Steve's wife, was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of Melanoma. She will be flying out to Lake Forest, California (near Irvine) to begin treatment very soon.

She will be working with a highly recommended integrative oncologist and cancer center with an initial six-week minimum stay and treatment.

Steve and Lorie are asking friends and family if they know of anyone in that area who may be able / willing to provide a place for Lorie to stay nearby her treatment facility.

If you could reach out to people or churches you know we may be able to connect with “someone who knows someone…” and secure a good location for Lorie.

As you can imagine, housing in California for six-week visitors is not cheap and the kind Lorie will need is not easy to find. Will you please help in their search? (You can email possible contact information to  pastor@shelbycenterchurch.info).

  • Lorie arrives in CA on July 29th. Treatment begins August 1st.
  • A hotel has been secured for temporary housing.
  • Travel, transportation, housing, food, etc. are out of pocket expenses to Steven & Lorie.
  • Steven & Lorie have no insurance with no guarantee of reimbursements for treatment from their coop.

We’ve been asked what kind of help they need. Here’s a short list:

1. Prayer.

2. A good contact for housing. They've booked a hotel nearby until something better and more affordable becomes available.

3. Expenses.  See the buttons below should you wish to help financially.

Steven and Lorie are  moving on this quickly due to the initial diagnosis - time is of the essence. If you would like to help in any of these three requests, we thank you.

Pastor Steve said, Our faith is strong, our God is great, and friends and family incredibly supportive.

Together we can do this. Go Lorie! Melanoma’s gonna lose. REMEMBER TO BOOKMARK this page to your favorites tabs.

Monday March 4th. I Saw the surgeon today and he removed the staples. He said I could start bearing weight while using the crutches.  I can work on bending my knee up to 30 degrees while resting. The X-rays showed 2 screws and a barely perceptible line where the break was 🙌 . Will start Physical Therapy in 3 weeks. ☺️
Thursday Feb. 29th. I am making progress. 🙌 Pain is minimal, getting around better on my crutches. My first post-surgical appointment is Monday, 3/4. Hoping to get the stitches out and x-rays so they can add a degree of bend in my brace. My cancer treatments are ongoing and I remain in regular contact with my doctors. Thank you for your continued prayers.
Saturday Feb. 17th.  The surgery was successful. Six to eight weeks of healing then physical therapy. Thank you for praying.
Saturday Feb. 10th. Lorie fell and broke her knee today. She’ll need surgery ASAP.
Thursday Jan. 18th. As I reflect on the past year, I am grateful. God allowed me to find an unusual spot in an unusual place on my body, knowing there were multiple other spots that turned out to be cancer.  He provided the means for me to be tested and treated at the incredible Cancer Center for Healing. Then, later to have a successful surgery to remove the cancer and have an uneventful recovery.  While I don’t know what this year will bring, I am grateful for a New Year full of potential and possibilities. Thank you to all you who participated in this whole process whether through giving, meals, prayers, cards or acts of encouragement.  I am forever grateful and covet your continued prayers for me to be cancer free. Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.  Ps 50:14-15
Tuesday Dec. 12th. Many thanks to those who have been praying for me. I’m healing well from my surgeries last month. Pathology showed clean margins, which is encouraging, praise the Lord! I will continue to have regular full body checks and am continuing treatments at home to improve my overall health and avoid any recurrence. My energy levels have improved and I’m in touch with my California & NY doctors to tweak my treatments as needed. Your continued prayers and encouragement are greatly appreciated. "But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer…" Ps 40:17

Tuesday October 31, 2023.  Surgery is scheduled for Nov. 14th with Dr. Tripp. Thank you for praying!
Saturday October 14, 2023. These last weeks have been flying by! I find that I have gained more strength and stamina with each passing week, though I am definitely not back to 100% yet. I am continuing my at home treatments and protocols. I am so thankful for Dr Connealy and staff for their care, even from afar. I’ve had a consult with the surgeon and will have surgery on 3 separate areas of my back sometime in November. So many of you have inquired about how I am doing, sent cards, brought meals, silently prayed, sent donations, and more. I could never fully express my gratitude to each of you, but I am ever so thankful. ☺️❤️ We have seen God’s hand of provision in so many little and big ways. I praise the Lord for each day. 🙌
I covet your prayers for my doctors to have wisdom in their plan of care for me, for surgeon to have great skill during my surgery, and continued healing. Thank you 🙏☺️
Saturday Sept. 30th. Hello 👋 I'm doing good. Not much has changed. I met with my doctor this past week by phone. My cancer protocol has been updated and will include things that tested most effective for me. Those will rotate on a monthly basis for the next six months. It is undecided on when I'll have to go back out for retesting. I consult with the surgeon is mid-Oct then surgery on cancer sites will be sometime afterwards. In the meantime, I'm continuing to do all the things to help improve my overall health. I'm starting to have more good days 🙌
Monday Sept 18th. Nice to be home after being away for 6 weeks. I am still adjusting to the time change, and have days of being very tired, but it is so good to be home. ☺️ I am continuing to eat a nutritious diet, getting lots of sleep, daily sun and activity, and some targeted treatments from home. In addition, I have a surgical consult this fall to remove tissues around 3 separate sites of melanoma on my back. The goal is to remove any remaining cancerous cells present at each site surgically, while making my body inhospitable to cancer growth with the oral treatments and strengthening my immune system to help eliminate any remaining or newly occurring cancer cells. Not sure how long this process is going to take, but I’m in it for the long haul. I continue to covet and appreciate your prayers and continued encouragement. “So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever: we will shew forth thy praise to all generations.”
Ps 79:13
Wednesday Sept 13th. We arrived home from our drive across the country together early this morning. We experienced the beauty and vastness of our country and enjoyed our drive thru the desert and the Rockies! Amazing! Lorie will be continuing her treatments here at home for the foreseeable future (several months), have surgery, other procedures, then return to California for further evaluation and treatment. We're grateful for the prayers, support, and encouragement along the way. Our love and gratitude to you all.
Friday Sept. 1st. Finishing up my 5th week. Had a rough start at the beginning, but am feeling so much better today. Looking forward to being reunited with family and friends soon. Treatment and surgery will continue at home with another trip to the CA center in a couple months. Your continued prayers and encouragement mean so much. Thank you ❤️ Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses. And he led them forth by the right way PS 107:6-7a
Sunday Aug. 27th.  Grabbing some lunch at the Cancer Center for healing where I receive treatments most week days.
I’ll continue with several of the treatments when I return home in a few weeks, but will not require IV chemo, praise the Lord! I’ll be treated with oral meds and supplements to work on circulating tumor cells, strengthening my immune and detoxification systems and prepare for surgery. I’m learning a lot, have met some incredible practitioners and patients alike, but am looking forward to returning home. “I will say of the Lord, he is my fortress. My God, in Him will I trust.” Ps 91:2
Tues. Aug. 22. Major Update: I’m finishing my 3rd week at the Cancer Center for Healing. The results from all the initial testing are in and I've consulted with the doctor. While I feel some better, my body has a long ways to go to be healed. I'll continue with treatments while here for a few more weeks. Upon returning home I’ll have surgery on cancer sites, and some other procedures, along with more treatments at home. I’ll be staying in touch with my doctor until I return to California for a follow up visit, retesting, and continued treatment. We’re ever so grateful for each of you who have contributed by way of prayers, gifts, and encouragement. Together, we got this! ❤️
Monday Aug. 21. If I didn’t know I have cancer, I’d never guess I have cancer. I feel more energetic, my skin issues have greatly improved and I’m sleeping better. I continue to be very optimistic with outcome. Treatment modalities continue to address cellular pH, metabolism detox, strengthening immune system, address underlying issues. Will find out more late this afternoon about targeted cancer treatment. 🙏 It has worked out very well where I am staying. The family I am living with are very nice and live about 5 min from the cancer center. My cancer tests are all back and I will find out today about specific cancer treatment plans. Praying they’ll allow me to continue treatment from home. Thank you for your continued prayers and encouragement.
Much love 💗
Thursday Aug. 17. This week I learned of several conditions being addressed that are weakening my immune system and causing cellular inflammation. The main test to determine targeted cancer treatment is still not back yet.
Continued prayers are greatly appreciated 💗
Saturday Aug. 12th. Lorie has found a very nice house five minutes from the clinic in a safe neighborhood. We're praising the Lord and she'll be moving in tomorrow, Lord willing!!
Friday Aug. 11th. I’ve been dealing with a head cold & congestion. Nothing serious, but feeling wiped out, so resting a lot. Have treatment 3x this week to strengthen my weakened body, support immune system and ability to detox.
I meet with the doctor Monday afternoon to go over test results and make plan for targeted cancer treatment.
I've also checked with a list of churches and none could help with housing. I did hear back from one today and they are seeing what they can do. Their missions/ prophets chamber is full though. I trust God has a plan 💗
Tuesday Aug. 8th. I will know more about targeted plan of care for cancer after meeting with doctor about my tests results on Monday. Then we go from there. I’m feeling a little weak, but keep working on immune system and detox pathways and getting lots of rest.
Saturday Aug. 5th. I’ve finished my first week at Cancer Center for Healing. I'm waiting for blood test and scan results for cancer markers and potential contributing root causes (hormonal, metabolic, and nutritional status, organ system functions, pathogens, environmental toxins, emotional health, energetic status…).
In the meantime, I am receiving IVs, light & oxygen therapies, a detox protocol and more to support my immune and detox systems. I can’t speak highly enough about Dr. Connealy and her staff. They are all super attentive, compassionate and skilled.
I am thankful to God for directing me to CCH and for each of you who have helped me get here through your donations, prayers and support.
Thursday Aug. 3rd. From Lorie: The last 3 days have been 9a - 5p with something new every hour - a test, a consult with different specialist, a treatment... No results from tests yet, but moving forward with strengthening my immune system. This Cancer Center is Creme de la Cream of treatments centers in their approach and the staff is all amazing. I'm doing well, praise the Lord. (Extra prayers for a 3week detox that started today 🥴) Love you all ❤️
From Steve: We're still in great need of housing for Lorie. The hotel situation is not ideal and Lorie will be treated now for a minimum of six weeks. If you'd like to help, copy and paste the upper part of this page to your friends and family. Hopefully someone out there knows someone out there who knows someone who can provide a better arrangement. You get the idea. Thank you for your love and prayers. And thank you all who have been giving to make this work. We're grateful.
Tuesday Aug. 1st. Lorie is going thru a battery of tests and interviews today to assess her cancer staging and begin a treatment path. She'll also have to relocate from her current hotel to something more suitable until a better housing situation can be secured.
Saturday July 29th. Lorie has arrived safely at her hotel in a very safe part of town. Praise the Lord. She'll have a couple of days to get acclimated to the area before treatment begins Tuesday.,
