Monday's Two-Minute Takeway - Confrontation
Most of us don't like confrontation. But God uses it in many ways. Whether our tendency is to avoid it or embrace it confrontation reveals something important about you and others.
In Gen. 31:22-35 Laban chases fleeing Jacob and they have it out! Legitimate needs conflict! When you decide to confront be sure to take Jesus with you, you'll need Him.
Laban's need for respect, sense of loss, ego, and truth be told, his idolatry have been threatened and taken away. Jacob needs autonomy, financial independence, and to do as God has instructed him. Both are hurting and one can't let it go.
As is often the case, hurt people hurt people. The offended become offenders and in the process become a threat to those we claim to care about the most. It is here Satan has a field day so be very careful (James 4:1, 5-7, Eph. 4:26-27, 2 Cor. 2:10-11).
Remember, your greatest artillery is an attitude of humility. You don't have to be offended, you choose to be. You can also choose not to be. Stop and carefully consider why you're offended and if it is worth pursuing.
(Pro. 25:8-9). Laban felt is was and went out of his way to confront Jacob (300 miles out of his way). Thankfully God was there too (Matt. 18:20) and Laban allowed God to temper his approach. More on this in our next post on Wednesday.
Let's Take the Message Home:
When you get offended what is the reason that seems to reoccur (the why). Are there healthier ways to respond? Write them down. If you’re a hurt person who hurts others, get some help.
